Leaders:

Hannah Craft

2nd grade teacher New Hope Christian Academy

Hannah Craft is a Chicago, Illinois native. Her love for children and working in an urban environment developed while she was raised in an urban environment where she came to love the city and its people. After high school, Hannah pursued her love for educating children in an urban environment by attending and graduating from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, TN with a major in Education and a minor in Community Development. Hannah played varsity basketball throughout her college career. After graduation, Hannah decided to continue her career in Memphis by participating in the Memphis Teacher Residency Program, earning her Masters in Urban Education during her first year in the program through Union University. Hannah is currently in her fourth year of teaching elementary education and in her first year at New Hope Christian Academy as a second grade teacher. Hannah loves teaching all children in all subjects, but is especially drawn to teaching children how to love writing. When Hannah is not teaching she loves to hang out with her family and friends.

Julia Foxworth

11th grade English Teacher Power Center Academy

After moving to Memphis to spend a resident year with the Martin Institute, Julia studied project-based learning, through the Buck Institute for Education, and Harvard Thinking Routines in depth. She has since taken this learning with her to Power Center Academy High School, a charter school in southeast Memphis where she teaches AP Language and Literature and serves as Content Lead and Master Teacher. Currently a member of the 2015 cohort of Stanford University’s Hollyhock Fellowship Program, Julia has focused her study on strategy instruction and culturally responsive teaching.

Jillian Hinesley

5th grade teacher New Hope Christian Academy

Jillian Hinesley has been connected with The Martin Institute for Teaching Excellence since the Summer of 2013. During her year as a Teacher Resident, Jillian studied the art of effective, engaging teaching by visiting, observing, and collaborating with a variety of teachers and school leaders across the Memphis area. During that year, she also earned a Masters Degree in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership from the University of Memphis. Jillian is currently a lead fifth grade teacher at New Hope Christian Academy.

Kara Jones

5th grade teacher New Hope Christian Academy

A native of Paris, Tennessee, Kara Jones is a 2012 graduate of Christian Brothers University in Memphis. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology and spending the following two years working in Memphis’ nonprofit sector, she grew eager to return to education as both a learner and a teacher. Inspired by those whom she met and interacted with during her time away from academia, Kara returned to her alma mater to begin working toward a Master of Arts in Teaching. After a year-long residency experience with the Martin Institute, Kara is now teaching 5th grade at New Hope Christian Academy. When she’s not in the classroom, Kara loves to cook, eat dark chocolate, listen to good music, and play (and pretend she’s good at) trivia.
